Guiding through the simple steps can make any novice enabling install that too!
Install a kitchen faucet- step by step guide
Like the bathroom faucet replacement, we need to know the type of the faucet and number of holes in the sink. The installation process slightly differs for different types of faucet though all the primary things are always the same. But if you have done any restoration in kitchen or bathroom before then you already have the experience of working with wrench and hammer and moreover you might have got an idea how to install a kitchen faucet without knocking much!
Just go through the steps swiftly so that nothing gets missed!
If we are to install a kitchen faucet with our own then getting some handy tools and necessary things near is essential and makes our process easier to handle.
Clearing the area: If you are doing it for the first time, then clear the various things we usually keep under the sink area. We recommend keeping a protective goggle* while clearing the portion for further work.
*Protective Goggle: This is a special type of eye wear that prevents any particle, spill to go near our eyes. The goggle fully surrounds our eyes.
Look out: If there’s any electrical connection beneath, kindly switch that off and always keep the process safe for everyone. There’s no hurry.
Disconnecting the lines & valves
Turn off the Valves: Now, we have a clean area to start with. The first way is switching the valves off. Generally the valves reside underneath and turning that clockwise makes that valve off. There will be no water supply through the line after that.
Disconnect the other lines: Once the valves are turned off, it’s time to disconnect the lines for the water outlet and for that, again we need to search below the sink and with the help of a wrench, we can easily detach the old lines.
Care: While using the wrench, handle all the things carefully otherwise systems behind the cabinet can be broken then we will have no way except calling a professional plumber. So don’t be a reason for disaster and handle each and every part with care. Increase pressure on the wrench slowly if needed.
Removing the old faucet
Before we install a kitchen faucet which has been brought and new, we have to remove the present one which is malfunctioning. So it’s time gearing up for removing the old faucet. If we look at the junction of the sink and water inlet, a clear line where the inlet is attached with the help of a nut is visible. We need to detach that nut* and take the pipe out carefully.
*Nut: It’s a metallic fastener with a spiral groove in the inner side. While it’s being rotated clockwise with any other section (usually it’s a bolt) having opposite groove, it gets fastened.
Now we are done with old one. Now, unpack the new faucet and check that fully so that you can get an idea how it’s made.
Installing a new faucet
As of now, we have cleared all the first part, we are left with the installation of the new one. We all know the for two or three hole faucet, we need a escutcheon plate otherwise for a single handle faucet we don’t need anything simply because the hot and cold water lines are the part of a spout assembly.
TIP: For single handle type, the lines come with labelling for hot and cold water separately. What we need to do is just connect the corresponding lines. Nothing else.
As per our experience, you can now easily install a kitchen faucet without much hassle. If you are facing any issue.
We have mentioned all the necessary points to remember while installing a faucet in our kitchen and don’t forget to check the tips mentioned.
Check: Don’t be too hard at any point of time while work is in progress. If anything feels to hard and you think that applying pressure is must then also try to put some mechanical lubricants and wait to see whether the things are getting easier and are coming out or not.
Now that we have done with all the processes let’s check the whether it’s working properly or not. If there’s any water spill around the faucet and kitchen desk, check the grooves. If all are okay but it’s still spilling then put some white cement around it.
